The Capitol opened as the Cort in 1911, with live stage productions. In 1918 it was renamed the Curran, in 1921, the Century, in 1922, the Morosco, and in 1923, the Capitol.

In the 1930's it became a popular downtown burlesque house, home of the Capitol Follies. It closed in June 1941 and was torn down.
