This theater is located on the South/East corner of Atlantic Avenue and Main Street in the city of Alhambra, California. It sits on the former location of the "Alhambra Theatre," which was leveled back in the 1980's or 1990's.

This theater is just east of it in a multi-level parking structure. The street address is 700 West Main Street.

I did go into the original Alhambra Theatre a few times, and at about that time, the 1970's, it was going through some changes.

At a later date, it was demolished, and this theater was put in its place. This new theater has 10 screens.

The theater at the corner of Atlantic/Main is the Edward's Atlantic Palace Theater. It is a 10 plex and did replace the twin theater at that location which was damaged in the Whittier Narrows Earthquake. There is indeed a 14 plex a few blocks away at Garfield/Main that is also an Edward's. It has been open only a month. This places 24 screens in downtown Alhambra. When the 14 plex opened, a small 5 plex owned by Edward's shut down.

this person's photo refers to the "Old Edwards Cinema on Main Street and Atlantic":

The photo in the link above is the Atlantic Palace 10 which replaced the original twin cinema. It is considered the "old one" now because the Edward's Stadium Multiplex opened in 2002 at Main/Garfield.

The old Alhambra Theater at Main and Atlantic was badly damaged in the October 1, 1987 Whittier earthquake. Bricks actually fell onto the sidewalk. The theater never re-opened. It was razed and replaced by the megaplex there today.

As Manwithnoname said in the first comment above (almost three years ago) the correct name of this ten screen multiplex is Edwards Atlantic Palace 10 (not that anything operated by Regal deserves to be given its correct name, or even mentioned at all.)

The original Alhambra Theatre is posted at Cinema Treasures under its final name, the Alhambra Twin Cinemas.

As Manwithnoname and Joe Vogel have pointed out the correct name of this theatre complex is Edward's Atlantic Palace 10. That's what it was called when I did a few shifts in the projection booth back then. And the above info at the top is more towards the former Alhambra Twin theatres.

A photo of Edwards Atlantic Palace Cinemas was featured on the cover of the August, 1991, issue of Boxoffice Magazine, and there was a multi-page article about the new multiplex. Groundbreaking for the ten-screen multiplex and adjacent multi-level parking facility had taken place on September 7, 1990, the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Edwards circuit. The new complex was built at a cost $15,000,000.

Currently, the complex is being advertised for sale on LoopNet for $11,000,000. From the seller's description it looks like they're trying to appeal to a buyer who would redevelop the land for some other use. There's no mention of any existing lease on the property, though the theater is still in operation as of this date. Given the abundance of screens in the area, and the fact that a 14-screen AMC multiplex is under construction a couple of miles away in Monterey Park, I wouldn't be surprised to see this place close within a year.

Maybe the misinformation on this page (wrong name, wrong number of screens, etc.) can be corrected before the theater is gone forever?

I agree with Joe. The area is saturated with screens in crappyplexes such as this one, the Renaissance 14, the AMC a few miles away in the Santa Anita Mall and now another AMC a few blocks from this one. Because of the newer ones I'm sure this one will soon depart.
