The Star had its start in 1907 when the Edison Electric Theater Company opened the Electric Theater. W.J. Millard bought it and changed the name to Star Theater. It was completely rebuilt in 1935 and remodeled for more seats in 1937. The Star was called "modernistic" in a June 1935 issue of the Gladwin County Record. It operated until May of 1959.

The building still stands. There are hopes that it might be renovated back into a theater. I remember it as long and narrow, with touches of Art Deco and Aztec or Mayan designs.
