The Lance Theatre was opened by 1950 when it was operated by Robb & Rowley-United Inc. By 1957 it was operated by Rowley United Theatres Inc. It was standing but closed in the 1990’s in this sleepy West Texas town. It had a wonderful vertical sign that was red with yellow letters and white trim. A giant LANCE runs vertically and parallel, top to bottom through the sign. Renovation work began in January 2016 with a view to reopening as a live theatre.

The July 16, 1949 issue of Boxoffice said that good progress was being made on the new,734-seat theater under construction at Rotan, and manager Lance M. Davis planned a fall opening. Davis was already operating the Majestic and Ritz theaters in Rotan in partnership with Robb & Rowley of Dallas.
