Housed in a building that was built in the late-1920’s for a J.C. Penny store, the building was converted to a theatre in 1938 and given the name Comet Theatre.
It has always been family run and operated with only three families operating the theatre over its lifetime. It is currently under the ownership of the Wassche family.
The Comet Theatre has a really nice V shaped marquee with a vertical that spells out ‘Comet’. The neon from the marquee and vertical lights up the entire block at night.

Roy Rasmussen was the owner of the Comet in the early 1960s, according to an item in Boxoffice magazine at that time.
Fascinating. Who owned it in the late 1960s?
The description says the current owner is the Wassche family. Since only three families have operated the theater over its lifetime, according to the description, that leaves only one family unidentified. If I come across it I will let you know.
You do that.
If this is a current site, church services are also held in the theater. The address given doesn’t match, however.

The majority of the results of a web search for a Comet Theater in Perham return an address of 146 First Avenue South. It is very possible that the address above is incorrect. And maybe this theater had more than three owners during its lifetime.
Does anyone know where I can find show times for this theater? I tried calling the phone number and just got a busy signal after a few rings. Any help would be much appreciated.
Here is a close-up photo. I don’t see any address number on the building.

LM I found the address listed at 146 First Ave. S. in two different places and when you map it is comes out to the Comet Theatre at that address.
The couple that owns this has for well over thirty years and has a remarkable place. Kids come, put their backpack in the closet, and then attend without parental supervision with no problems. It’s great for a night out. Prices are reasonable and it’s a great hometown theater.
