Built in 1929 as a community building for dances, graduations, town meetings. etc. In 1935 it became a movie theatre, featuring first run films. The first movie shown starred Will Rogers in “Steamboat ‘Round The Bend”. Movies were shown continuously until 1980.

The building was slated for demolition, but was purchased by a group of preservationists. By 1983 the Theatre had become a Community Arts Center featuring year round schedules of community theatre, education in theatre arts, music concerts, summer drama camp, staged readings and productions of original works.

BTW…..In both photos, the name on the marquee is spelled “CHURCHILL” with one “H” and no space. Was this theater renamed?
