A 1973 Los Angeles Times advertises this as a male cinema. This may win hands down for the most bizzare-named theatre.

Come and went so quick, even I missed this one! lol I was in West Hollywood when this was posted as a ‘newest theatre’ and didn’t have internet access, wish I had, as I could have checked out the current status.
Seriously though, doing a web search on this address comes up with a Thai restaurant called The Flowering Tree…selected extract from a web review of the restaurant:
‘…The Flowering Tree will delight your senses….Put on your comfiest brown corduroys and tattered sweater and enjoy a scrumptious earthy…..’
Well!
I hear that this theater had meters on the seats – 25 cents for each ten minutes…
Ken mc are you serious or are you kidding? I guess it really is a “Quickie Theater” if you only got 10 minutes!
September 1974 advertised all male films 10 am to 5 am. Gives them a couple of hours to sweep and mop, maybe make some fresh popcorn.
We kid you not:

I hear the come and go there all the time.
The exterior of the theatre was featured in the film LOVE ME DEADLY (1974)
If anyone has any stories about going to/ working at this threatre in its adult days, I would love to hear them. I am chronicling the histories of adult theatres in the US. Please contact me at Thanks!
There isn’t anything ‘bizarre’ about the name of this theater. The patrons would enter the theater, spend a few minutes having furtive, anonymous sex, then leave – all within a few quick minutes. “Quickie” – get it? Welcome to L.A.
If you want bizarre, take a look at this photo of and this ad for what was the former University Theater in Cleveland, Oh.
