The Elkader Cinema was built in 1941. The theater closed around 1993 and sat vacant for a decade. Lee and Diane Akin along with a local volunteer group have refurbished this old movie theater. They received a $50,000 grant from the Main Street Iowa program, $20,000 from the Upper Mississippi Gaming Commission and many private donations. The original marquee from 1941 was repaired and reused. The Elkader Cinema is once again showing movies.

The same photo is on the Elkader Cinema website above. :)
lost memory the reason I posted it was their web site was down for some time. Here is another photo during the restoration. I don’t think this is on their site.

I take it back it is.
Wasn’t the Eklander Cinema also known as the Show House and the Circle Theatre at one time?
Here is a photo of the Elkader Cinema.
The Elkader can be seen in this 2008 photo.
In 1955 the Elkader Theater had 400 seats.
To answer the question asked by Chuck in 2005, there is a Circle Theater listed for this address in 1990. That should be an aka name.
LM, the original name was the Elkader, right? Then Show House followed by Circle and finally Elkader Cinema. I think.
