Rivola Theatre

This theatre was opened in 1921, in what was likely a purpose-built structure. Although it appears a bit old fashioned, and has a tin cornice, the 1913 map shows a wooden building on this location.

The theatre remained open until 1941, when the owners opened the larger Elkader Theatre across the street.

The building today is in very good shape, and features an attractive red and black vitrolite strip above the storefront, which may date to its time as a theatre (or might have been part of a remodeling to retail). It is currently home to the Clayton County Genealogical Society, with apartments upstairs.
