Ritz Theater

Viewing: Photo | Street View

Built as the Grand Opera House and located within the Old Town Brunswick National Register Historic District, the theater was originally built for the legitimate stage.

Later, however, it became a theater for vaudeville, and in the 1930s, the Opera House was converted into a movie palace. After a marquee and vertical sign were added, it became known as the Ritz.

The City of Brunswick purchased the Ritz in 1980. The theater has been under the management of the Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Association since 1989.

The header should list this as the Brunswick Opera House, AKA Ritz Theatre.

Header should be, let me correct myself, Ritz Brunswick Opera House.

It’s really roo bad that they didn’t restore the Marquee on this theatre, the canvas awning just lacks something. Also if using the mapping it don’t map out properly, the theatre maps out at 1482.

Here are my December 2010 pictures of the Ritz. It’s a beautiful building. I only wish that they could’ve kept the old marquee, visible in the 1983 picture.
