The Bijou Theatre stood on Newcastle Street near Monck Street in Brunswick. It had opened by 1919. By 1934 it was operated by United Theater Enterprises Inc. It is shown in the 1941 Film Daily Yearbook as open and seating 300, operated by Lucas & Jenkins, a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures Inc.
An investment firm is located at this address today.

Was the theater demolished for the investment firm or just renovated?
The building still exist with only slight (i.e. removal of the marquee, box office, et al) alterations. The earliest record of the Bijou is from the Motion Picture World publication dated 1919. Based on it’s width, it was probably not feasible to convert over to wide screen format, hence it’s closing in the 1940s.
