The Knox Theater opened in 1936 and closed in 1997. The county of Warrenton purchased the vacant theater in August of 2003 for $53,000. They plan to renovate the Art Deco style theater and re-open it as a movie theater. As of now, I have no idea how far they have gotten with their plans to renovate this theater. Beautiful shot of an old classic theater.
J. Warren Jackson, 83, Owner and Operator of the KNOX THEATRE passed away Jan. 28 2010. His very first job was working at the KNOX THEATRE.It was a love that stayed with him. He was a banker in the town of Warrenton.

I sent a few dollars maybe others will.
Yeah Mike when we were real busy at the Loews Crescent many people would leave out the emergency exits into the alleys beside the theatre and behind it we used to have several ushers to look out for people who would try to sneak in while the others were leaving.I have also caught people who bought one ticket and would open the exit doors to let in their friends.I am sure some people got away with it though.
There was a “LEAVE IT TO BEAVER” episode on that same subject.
Just heard from a friend who lives in Warrenton, that work is now being done on the KNOX THEATRE.Wish someone up in that area could keep us updated.
“OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT OPENS” April 30 1976.“WANDA NEVADA” plays June 8 1979.
Just what Warrenton wants,“SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT” open 5-27-77,No driving to Augusta to see it.
Just spoke to a resident of Warrenton and I was told The Knox Theatre now has a brand new roof and facial on the front when the Whole downtown under went a makeover. Sadly,According to Tommy Thompson not a thing has been done inside and he said the small Town was indifferent to the Theatre and he doesn’t expect much to be done to the small brick theatre. At least they didn’t Bulldoze it like they did to the Wilkes Theatre in nearby Wshington,Georgia"and put up a parking lot".
How many old movie theatres do you see standing alone. I saw the Knox in it’s rundown state, so glad they restored the outside and I hope Warrenton realizes what a treasure they have and will complete the project on the inside. They won’t get another opportunity if they miss out here.
