Is the Tommy Thompson in the Mike Rogers comment any relation to the old Martin and Thompson chain?

How many old movie theatres do you see standing alone. I saw the Knox in it’s rundown state, so glad they restored the outside and I hope Warrenton realizes what a treasure they have and will complete the project on the inside. They won’t get another opportunity if they miss out here.

Just spoke to a resident of Warrenton and I was told The Knox Theatre now has a brand new roof and facial on the front when the Whole downtown under went a makeover. Sadly,According to Tommy Thompson not a thing has been done inside and he said the small Town was indifferent to the Theatre and he doesn’t expect much to be done to the small brick theatre. At least they didn’t Bulldoze it like they did to the Wilkes Theatre in nearby Wshington,Georgia"and put up a parking lot".

Yeah Mike when we were real busy at the Loews Crescent many people would leave out the emergency exits into the alleys beside the theatre and behind it we used to have several ushers to look out for people who would try to sneak in while the others were leaving.I have also caught people who bought one ticket and would open the exit doors to let in their friends.I am sure some people got away with it though.

I am always going into closed theatres. This one the back exit doors about came off in my hand from rot. Did get a nice wooden standee that was used i bet for years to put one sheets on. I was hoping to find hundreds of one sheets, but found one.
I was later told someone tracked down the owner in Warrenton and the old man GAVE HIM every ONE SHEET in the back room. I bet he sold every one while i keep all of mine. I bet still in this country there are still small town theatres full of materials.

I have a nose of getting closed theatres.Ten years at least i Got in through a back exit door, It was almost rotten. The theatre had been closed 5 or 6 years. I walked around,Mainly looking for one sheets. Found one.I had heard the place was a treasure of one sheets and according to a friend the owner had sold them all to someone in Jackson,S.C. I looked inside the tiny boxoffice and saw some one sheets but could not reach them. One time probably in the late 80’s i went by one evening while eating at a nearby cafe.I saw the Theatre neon lights come on.Walked across the street introduced myself and the manager or owner took me up to the booth.
There was not crusty oldman running the movies but a woman. Probably in her 70’s.Old Carbon arc projectors.20 minutes reel. She had to make change overs. The area is mainly black rural so the movie was one of those countless action kill fests. But, it had a good bright picture. I talked to someone from Warrenton and he said the theatre is being worked on.
