The 300 seating capacity is constant in the 1941 and 1943 editions of Film Daily Yearbook, but by the 1950 edition it had risen to 684. Could a balcony have been added?
Good question. If you look at the photo of this theater and the photo of the Grand Theater in Leaksville, both buildings are tall enough to have a balcony. I noticed that both theaters have a seat count of 300 until you get to the 1950’s when the seat count increases. Most of the older theaters from this area have a seat count of 300. Could there have been a law limiting the seating to 300 and then the law was changed to allow more seats? The Boulevard and the Grand might have had balconies all along but couldn’t use them.
The Boulevard Theatre opened in 1935, was destroyed by a fired in Sept. of 1951. Seat count listed in the article was 684.
