The Owen Hillbilly Theatre opened in 1936 and was named after its owner and former Mayor of Branson, Jim Owen. It was designed by the Boller Brothers and could originally seat 350 but after the stage was expanded to acommodate variety shows and larger seats were installed, the current seating capacity is now 210.
Today no longer a movie theatre, and renamed the Historic Owen Theatre, the oldest remaining theatre in Branson today serves as a performing arts facility under the ownership and management of the Branson Regional Arts Council. The theatre is located in heart of Branson’s Historic Downtown District.
