After the Gem Theatre closed in downtown Winter Garden, Florida in 1948, Collie Biggers decided to construct a theatre in the city for African-American patrons. The Annex Theatre was constructed and opened in 1950 on Klondike Street in East Winter Garden.
Resembling a large quonset hut on the outside, it seated about 300 and had no concessions. The projection equipment from the closed Gem Theatre’s booth was moved to the Annex. The theatre closed in 1963, and the building is now owned by Orange County and is the site of the Maxey Community Center.

Irv, not many of the quonset hut theatres around these days. The Crest in St. Louis was of that tyle but it long gone. High domed roof on the inside but interesting architecture.

According to Boxoffice of January 15, 1955, the Carl Floyd Theatres circuit had recently taken over operation of the Annex. Floyd took over the Winter Garden Theatre and the Starlite Drive-In at the same time.
