Designed by Myrtus A. Wright, the Mann Highland I & II opened in 1939 as the single screen Highland Theater in Streamline Moderne style. Around 1974 the balcony was converted into a smaller second auditorium. Seating for the main auditorium is given as 550.

This theater was mentioned on last night’s TV special about “Peanuts” creator Charles Schulz by his long-ago girlfriend, who remembers young “Sparky” taking her to neck….the air-conditioning was so cold it encouraged him!

Great theatre in a fantastic neighborhood. Feels like you have gone back in time going to a movie here. Was here tonight and was only dissapointed that the main theatre was closed for renovations. But, that should be a good thing if they don’t modernize it. I will be back when its done. Best place to see a movie. Thankfully old theatres like this are still here. Beats a giant cineplex anyday!
