The Fawn Theater opened September 6, 1930. Around a year later, it was renamed Strand Theater. In 1932, it became the Rex Theater, operating as Hobbs' only theater until the Rig Theater opened in 1935. The Rex Theater was destroyed in a fire in May of 1936.

The Hobbs Public Library is a little difficult to follow in their descriptions of these theaters. The Fawn opened on September 6, 1930. The name was changed to the Strand around 1931.
“In 1932, Griffith leased the Fawn theater which had been closed for about a year. "When we opened it up for business,” Morley said, “It had those old hard-bottom seats and very poor sound equipment.” Griffith renamed it the Rex and it remained Hobbs’ only theater until the Rig opened late in 1935. The Rex Theater was destroyed in an early morning blaze on May 6, 1936".
So, Fawn was the first name, Strand was the second name and Rex was the final name of this short lived theater.
According to the 1935 Hobbs city directory, the Rex was located at 115 West Broadway.
Screens should be one. Seating was 460 in 1935.
