The Cullman Theatre opened on March 2, 1938 with seating for 900 on two floors. The opening attraction was “Navy Blue and Gold”. The Cullman was built and operated by Cullman Amusements at a cost of $40,000.
The Cullman closed in 1955 and was destroyed by fire on December 8, 1962 along with several other buildings on each side of the theater.

In 1948 the Cullman was operated by Acme Theaters out of Birmingham. Owner of the chain was Frank Merritt. Acme also ran the Lyric in Cullman.
