The New Lyric Theater was opened September 25, 1918. It was still open in 1941 when it was operated by Fox West Coast Theatres. They were still the operators in 1950.

In the late fifties and early sixties, this was the place to see triple bill science fiction and horror movies. The original Chicago Store location was a couple doors down from it. It was sort of like the poor man’s Fox Theater.

It’s interesting that you’d say that, because as early as Fri., Feb. 20th, 1942, it was indeed operated by Fox West Coast Theatres.

The September 24th, 1918 grand opening ad can be found in the photo section. It opened on the next day.

The Lyric played Old Yeller and Laurel & Hardy’s Laughing 20s the week of November 24-30, 1965. It is not listed again in the paper the rest of the year…may have closed then.
