The Times Theatre was opened on October 2, 1941 with Dennis Morgan in “Bad Men of Missouri” & James Gleason in “Tanks a Million”. It was the sister theatre to the Esquire Theatre, which is across the street (only the facade survives from the original theatre). The Times Theatre was designed by William B. David, who designed many theatres in Northern California and Oregon. From late-1962 it went over to screening adult movies. It was later renamed Star Theatre screening Chinese movies.
The Star Theatre was demolished to make way for a shopping mall and the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
