The Star Theatre was built as a vaudeville house in 1906 and later became one of Elgin’s first movie houses. The Star was located next door to the recently-demolished Crocker Theatre. The Star Theatre was torn down for a parking lot in 1956.

The Star Theatre was constructed in the Greek Revival style.

The Star Theatre was built using the Greek Revival style. The theater showed vaudville up until 1924 when the owner of the Crocker Theater (next door) bought the building and converted it to retail. The building was later torn down by the Joseph Spiess Department Store in 1956 for a parking lot.

That movie was titled “Singer Jim McKee”. Sorry for the typo.

Later on in the Star’s history, a large balcony was added bringing the total seating capacity to 1,100.
