Seating capacity for The Movies 1,2,3 was 925. Auditorium 1 seated 350, Auditorium 2 seated 300 and Auditorium 3 seated 275. It opened on October 3, 1975 under Martin Theatres. It became the second triplex cinema in the Chapel Hill area. Located in the NCNB Building in downtown, through the NCNB Plaza, nowadays the Bank of America Building.

Initially a first run theatre, it also showcased independent films. During the mid-1980’s, it was acquired by Carmike Cinemas and was closed on October 18, 2000. The building became a nightclub, but this closed in early-2007.

“TERMINATOR 2:JUDGMENT DAY” and “HOME ALONE” played here to capacity crowds.

“BATMAN RETURNS” and “HOME ALONE 2” brought in record crowds. The original “BATMAN” movie with Michael Keaton played here too.

“THE COLOR PURPLE” also played here in February,1986.
