Jon’s Theatre was located on the Court Square in Camdenton. This theatre advertised in the local newspaper; The Camdenton Reville throughout 1949 and 1950 up until the new Lake Theater opened on August 25 1950, The last movie advertised for Jon’s Theatre was “Father is a Bachelor” on August 24, 1950.

There is an article in the paper about the new Lake Theatre being a new building, but it is not clear whether it was built by the owners of Jon’s Theatre as a replacement, or was built by new owners in competition with Jon’s Theatre.

It’s also not clear if Jon’s Theatre closed or just stopped advertising in that paper. I’m also not sure where on the Court Square Jon’s Theatre was at this point, as there is no address in any of their ads other than "on the Court Square". I’m also not sure when it was opened or if it went under other names in prior years.

The 1941 edition of Film Daily Yearbook only lists a Camden Theatre with 250 seats. In the 1943 edition of F.D.Y. the Camden Theatre is still listed with 250 seats and there is also a Jones Theatre with 276 seats. By the time the 1950 edition of F.D.Y. was published, the only theatre listed as operating is Jons Theatre (their spelling) with a seating capacity of 256.

Jon’s Theatre opened on December 25, 1941, and the opening feature was NEVER GIVE A SUCKER AN EVEN BREAK with W.C. Fields. The owner was John White. This appears to be the same John White who later operated the Lake Theatre and the Camdenton Drive-In. Until May 23, 1942, Jon’s Theatre competed with the nearby Camden Theater, but then John White purchased the Camden Theater from Shield Wilson, and apparently never reopened that theater. I would also assume that John White closed Jon’s Theater when he opened the Lake Theater.

John White and his father Claude also owned the Nu-Buflo Theater in Buffalo, MO, which they bought in 1946.
