Tazewell Theatre, Washington, IL

The Tazwell Theatre opened on August 25, 1939. It was closed on January 18, 1968 with Dean Martin in “Texas Across the River”.

Today a florist operates out of the building.

My Dad owned this theater in the late 60’s. He bought it when no one else wanted it. He hired a bunch of young kids to run it, and every kid in town spent a lot of Saturdays there watching cartoon marathons and Disney flicks…

This theatre was mentioned last night (6/10/13) on the “American Pickers” TV show. A black and white photo of theatre was shown as well as a number of movie posters that had been displayed at it.

I saw the episode but that daughter said it was open in the 1970’s when Mike was talking to her? I wonder if that 1968 date is correct then?
