The photo that I linked to belongs to Darren Snow. I didn’t know that he also ran a blog site. It could be that site just “borrowed” his photo.

When this theatre first opened it was called the Star Theatre.

Chuck….There was a Sharon Theater in New Sharon, IA that dates back to at least 1935. No address is given for the Sharon Theater so I can’t tell if it was a previous name for the Capri.

The Star that I found also mentioned a Sharon Theatre at 100 E. Market St. but it said the last name for the theatre was Capri. The address for the header on this one says 107 E. Market St. I was hoping that the related web site would clarify the address but it is just the duplicate photo. I’m confused.

According to an Iowa history website, the Capri aka Star Theater was located at 100 East Market Street. But, an address search for the Capri Theater returns the 107 E. Market Street address. The Iowa history site might be giving the wrong address. The Sharon Theater is listed from at least 1935 to 1955. I don’t want to add the Sharon Theater because it might be another name for the Capri.

LM, I see what you mean, all the links I pull up say 107 E. Market too. The admission price is a little different than up above but I guess they went up since this theatre was first listed.

Here is a 2008 article about the Capri having financial problems. Seating given in the article is 174.

LM I wonder if the reason that Fridley Theatres gave this theatre up was due to the fact it wasn’t a money maker. It still shows up on some of the web sites as open and the telephone number is a working number.

As far as I know, the Capri is still open. Ticket prices are now $2.50. This is a recent photo of the Capri.
