The Rialto Cinema was designed by architect F.J. Macaulay and after taking just six months to build it opened on 5th November 1936 with Harry Roy in “Everything is Rhythm”. It closed in August 1970 and the following year was converted into a car showroom, which still operates today.

This cinema is scheduled for complete demolition according to a recent application for planning permission. To object to the application, you can go to View link and enter the planning reference 4118/08. You can submit an objection for €20 before 22 September 2008.
