The Chinachem Golden Plaza Cinema is in Tsim Sha Tsui East on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong.

Its three auditoriums are on the first floor of a commercial building with the lobby on the ground floor. The theatre once expanded to six auditoriums but three have been closed in around 2008.

It showed first-run English language and Chinese dialect films since its opening on 6th February, 1988. The theatre was managed by Chinachem Entertainment Limited. It was closed on 24th May 2013.

The theatre closed on 24th May, 2013 after the 5.30pm shows.

From my memory, Chinachem was a rare cinema had “late-late night shows”, indeed early in the morning, 1:30 and 3:30 am shows. Most cinemas in Hong Kong still have late night shows (11:30 pm), particularly on Saturdays while 1:30 am shows on special days like Chinese new year’s eve. Chinachem, in an area full of nightlife, had 1:30 am virtually every night and 3:30 am on some specific days.
