Carmike Plaza Twin Cinema

Viewing: Photo | Street View

Opened on November 21, 1972 as Dunn’s first-ever twin theatre under Charlotte-based Stewart and Everett Theatres. Both auditoriums seated 300 each. Carmike Cinemas took over operations of this theatre in 1986. They refurbished the theatre in 2007 when new seating, carpeting and digital projection was installed.

It was announced in mid-August 2008 that the first-run cinema would close its doors forever on August 28, 2008 due to lack of business. It was the only operating theatre in all of Dunn and Harnett County.

Why they would have refurbished this theater is anyones guess. The numbers at this theater have been bad for years.

Wasn’t this theatre anchored by three major stores? I know it was anchored by a Winn-Dixie grocery store and a Roses Department Store and at one end a Eckerd Drugs. The theatre was on the opposite end of the shopping center off US. 421.

It was known as the Plaza Cinema 1 & 2.
