The Strand Theatre was opened in the 1920’s. It is listed in the 1941 edition of Film Daily Yearbook with a seating capacity of 674. The 1950 edition lists a seating capacity of 700.

The Strand Theater had a Marr & Colton theater organ. The timeline that I found for this theater is 1927 to 1966.
I have walked around this building several times.It appears to be very sound,but little used by some civic club.Would be a great venue for a summer playhouse and classic movie vemue,due to the HUGE amount of summer tourism in this scenic Eire Canal village.Being the 2nd most popular historical area for tourism related to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,you have a huge deluge of tourists in the summer months.During the two week span of a mind-blowing out door drama there,you could have turn-away crowds,but the steady stream for several months would make for a valid idea.The “night life” in the area is almost nil,so such a project might be a doable.
I would call the style “GEORGIAN”>
It’s now a Masonic Hall. Went there as a little kid. Was run by “Dan the movie man.” We kids lived in fear of him…‘keep your feet off the seats and quit throwing popcorn!’
Not fancy but fairly large for a small town. The lobby was tiny. Large bullseye painted on the ceiling (I have no idea). Wicker chairs with cushions in the back row.
Of course it got the movies after they were done in nearby Rochester but they ran kiddie shows Saturday morning.
Good (if vague) memories, except suffering through ‘Mary Poppins’.
This theater SCREAMS out for RE-USE.
