Highland Theatre

This Highland Theatre was the second movie theatre on Eastern Avenue to be given this name. The first Highland Theatre was located at 3509-3511 Eastern Avenue on the second floor of the Highland Academy building, aka Conklin Hall, and operated from 1895 until 1919. It is now converted into office space.

The second Highland Theatre opened on June 25, 1940, designed by J.O. Chertkof. It closed briefly in the summer of 1949 and had reopened by 1950. Closed finally in 1951, it was converted into a supermarket, later a sportswear store. The building is now home to Maxim Furniture.
