The Burbank Theatre opened in 1949. It operated as an art house theater until the late-1960’s, the Burbank Theater became a revival house until 1973. Shaw Theaters relinquished operation in 1973.
The Burbank Theater showed porn films from 1973 to 1977, became a revival house again in 1977-1978, then switched back to porn (triple bills) in 1978-2000.
The Burbank Theater was shut down in March of 2000 as a public nuisance by the Santa Clara County DA.

ADULT THEATER CLOSING SOUGHT BURBANK CINEMA: DISTRICT ATTORNEY SUES OWNERS, CLAIMING PUBLIC NUISANCE, UNLAWFUL SEX ACTS
Calling it a public nuisance, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office sought an order Friday to close the Burbank Theatre, an adult movie house and longtime fixture in the unincorporated community of Burbank. Though Superior Court Judge William Elfving did not immediately shut down the theater, he ordered the owners to stop allowing unlawful sex acts on the premises and to meet a series of conditions, including hiring full-time security.

Much more of the exterior is now painted in a warm sandstone/orangish color. This painting process seems to be added to whenever the owner can afford more paint and/or labor.
