Alkazar Sinemasi was built in the 1910’s. In the 1970’s-1980’s it became an adult theater. The 1st Istanbul Gay & Lesbian Film Festival was held at the Alkazar in October 2004. In March/April 2008, the International Women’s Film Festival was held here.

The Alkazar Sinemasi showed mostly art films from Europe along with an occasional Hollywood movie. It was closed in 2010.

This cinema was closed down in 2010 due to unprofitability. It had re-opened in 1994 thanks to the efforts of film critic Onat Kutlar.
