Illings Theatre

Illing’s (or Illings) Theatre was opened in 1909 for Eugene W. Illing. It was located on the corner of Washington Avenue and Porter Avenue.

It was leased to the Joy Theatres chain in 1946. It closed in 1953 screening Walt Disney’s animated feature “Peter Pan”, but reopened in 1957 briefly, before closing for good in 1958 with Elvis Presley in “King Creole”.

The Illings Theatre was torn down in 1968 and the First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs was built on the site in 1969.

Actually, this theater was screening “Titanic” (1953, Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck) before closing temporarily
