Gaiety Cinema

Viewing: Photo | Street View

Located in the southwest London inner city district of Brixton. The Duke of York’s Picture Theatre opened in 1912 and was operated by Brixton Cinematograph Theatres Ltd. New owners N.B. Walters took over in 1919, and it was re-named Gaiety Cinema. It was closed in the mid-1920’s.

For many years the building has been in use as a furniture store and in 2009 it is a discount furniture store named Last Price Furniture.

Again, just a couple of quick corrections, as this cinema did not open in 1912 and it was not in 1919 when N. B. Walters took it over. Unfortunately with these listings, they are simply recycled from other and often unreliable sources which, as here, prove to be incorrect.
