The original Columbia Theatre was in operation circa 1915, owned by the Bertotti family. It was a building with clapboard siding, sharing business space with a saloon. At that time the admission price was five cents.
It’s not known if the original theatre location was the same as the most well-known later location which was at 260 North 9th Street. This later and last location was a two-story brick building built in 1921, with the theatre name carved in stone blocks at the top of the building. The front part of the building is still standing and has been used for many different small businesses.
The Columbia Theatre stayed in the Bertotti family until its closing on April 12, 1954. In the 1940’s, the Bertotti family operated the Columbia Confectionary and the Columbia Theatre at the same address.
