Regent Theatre

The Regent Theatre showed motion pictures from 1914 when it was built by the Ansonia Amusement Company. It was listed in the American Motion Picture Directory 1914-1915 as the Argus Theatre, which could have been its opening name. By 1926 the Regent Theatre was operated by the Yost Theater Circuit.

The Regent Theatre operated until at least 1956, and perhaps later than that.

In 1956 it was sold by the Playhouse Operating Company.

The Regent theatre’s marquis can be seen in the opening credit picture montage in “Back to School”. The 1985 film starring Rodney Dangerfield. The following can be read… “MISS THIRD AVE BEAUTY CONTEST TODAY PLUS WESTERN”..the Third Avenue El can be seen as well in front of the theatre….
