The Roxy Theatre was opened by 1943, and continued until at least 1950. Driving in Baxley, Georgia off U.S. 1, I stopped by what was left of a movie house, the Roxy Theatre. It was beyond repair and surprised the city would let it fester like it was. I took a couple of pictures of the front with its very small marquee, the one sheet frames were still up, but that was about it. Looked like the roof had finally given out. Through the glass door I was able to get one picture of scrap wood, seats, cans and such. Really a sad picture.
The Roxy Theatre was a Martin-Simpson theatre at one time with L.M. Stockton as genreal manager of the eight screens in Georgia.

Open from ABOUT 1950-1964? I’m fairly sure it was closed by 1967.
The owner from ABOUT 1955-1964 was Martin Theater of Georgia and Alabama Incorporated in Columbus, Georgia. They had around 159 theaters in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisinana, Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington State. A number of those theaters were built especially for CINERAMA.
Can anyone come up with the exact address of the Roxy?
thanks,Bob.
Mike, if I have the right Roxy, the building has been rehabbed and is now law offices, it is across from the Court House just about a half block off Main St. The address given for the former theatre

Before being remodeled in 1940, the Roxy was called the Princess Theatre. The name change was announced in the March 23 issue of Boxoffice.
When the Martin-Thompson Theatres partnership was dissolved in 1961, Boxoffice of May 15 reported that the Roxy was one of the houses that would thereafter be operated by Martin Theatres.
Thanks Joe and Chuck.I do have a picture taken in the 80’s i guess.Need to get Nick to get it on.
