East Bridgewater Cinema 5

A small 6-screen multiplex in the Carriage Crossing Shopping Center in East Bridgewater, MA. It opened April 5, 1991. This cinema was formerly a Hoyts, and was then owned by Boston Culinary Group; it was one of their 3 Massachusetts locations. Now operated by South Shore Cinemas with 5-screens.

BCG’s website says “East Bridgewater Cinema 5”, but this is a typo, for sure. Everywhere else says “Cinema 6”.

Also, this cinema hosts a monthly performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show by the RKO Army. Second Friday of every month, see www.rkoarmy.com

I think this cinema passed through Regal’s hands briefly, but other than a random notation on the internet, I can’t seem to confirm that.

In my experience the EB Cinema is the Titanic of movie theatres, it should have been sent to the bottom of the sea years ago. After several disasterous experiences, which included blurry images, filthy gum ridden screens, wrong reels being shown, too much heat, too much cold, etc., I gave up on the place. In general, the conditions were deplorable, I can remember a broken water fountain, which stayed that way for over 2 years!! So, finally I decided to refuse to give them another dime of my hard earned $. This is unfortunate, because I love film and as an EB resident I would love to contribute to a local business. But, it was too much to take, so now I now drive the extra 20 minutes to the Randolph Cinemas, where I experience big, clear screens and terrific sound….and working water fountains!! Clearly Hoyts decided they were not going to spend a dime on the place, hopefully the new ownership had more of a sense of pride.

I can’t say much other than I went there once, and it seemed pleasant enough, if unassuming and bland. The current ownership seems to keep on top of upkeep, if nothing else.

But it certainly sounds like Hoyts didn’t give a damn about the place.

Early 1990’s opened with 6 screens by Enertainment Management Corp.

By 1998 taken over by Hoyts Cinemas LLC

2005 taken over by Entertainment Cinemas

20?? Boston Culinary Group, Theater Division

I notice the Website states EAST BRIDGEWATER CINEMA 5 (FIVE) and in fact only lists 5 (FIVE) movies being shown. My guess is the other theater is now a restaurant. Could someone in the area check this out and let us know what is going on?

More info and photos are always welcome.

This cinema has been taken over by South Shore Cinemas which runs the Cameo in South Weymouth and the Mill Wharf Cinema in Scituate. I don’t know when the take-over took place. They list it at 5 screens.

It is indeed 5 cinemas now. While under Boston Culinary Group, the 6th (and smallest) cinema was sold to the adjacent CVS for storage.
