This theatre was originally the Poteau Theatre. The Poteau along with the Victory Theatre was owned by Kemp & Hughes in the early 1930’s.
Header needs to have an AKA Poteau Theatre and the Poteau page should be eliminated.

On google maps, in the 500 block of W. 1st St. is a shut down cinema with a tiled roof and a Spanish facade. Wonder which theatre it was?

So sorry, theatre should have been listed on 500 block EAST 1st St. (located between Heavener Library and Ledger Newspaper Office).

Open ~1950? Can anyone verify the exact dates?

Could use an address or crossroads, more info and photos.

A theatre ad in the Ledger for the New Theatre on May 5th, 1949 shows the movie “A Connecticut Yankee In King Arhtur’s Court” playing. The address listed for the theatre was
503 E. 1st St.

The towns of Poteau and Heavener are a few miles apart in LeFlore County, of which Poteau is the County Seat. It seems odd that one town would have a theater named for the other town.

There is a three-screen Poteau Theatre operating in Poteau today, though. Heavener apparently has no theaters open.
