Downey Cinema 10

As part of an urban renewal project Krikorian Premiere Theatres opened its Cinema 10 in the summer of 1997. The theater was all new construction with an attached parking garage. It is located within a block and a half of the still existing old Avenue Theatre and the demolished Meralta Theatre. It is a neighborhood theater and it seems to be holding it own against its closest competition, the Regal South Gate 20, about 2 ½ miles away. Despite being a small town in the middle of a large urban area the city tries to retain its a small town roots and among other things holds a farmer’s market downtown every Saturday morning.

The city’s web site says Downey is home to where Apollo space program began and the world’s oldest MacDonald’s and the first Taco Bell.
