The Los Angeles Times reported that Metropolitan Theatres broke ground for this stadium theater on July 31, 1998. In March of 1999 Metropolitan sold their Coachella Valley holdings to Resort Theatres of American (RTA) who opened the theater around Memorial Day.

RTA facing financial problems sold the theater to Signature Theatres in 2003.

The Times reported in April of 2004 that Regal Entertainment Group purchased all of Signature theatres for $226 million.
