The original single-screen Chinook Theatre was opened on September 28, 1965 by Famous Players at the Chinook Shopping Centre. This theatre seated 718 and was used for roadshow presentations.

The Chinook Theatre closed in 1990, though Famous Players later returned to the Chinook Centre in March 2001 with the Paramount Chinook (now the Scotiabank Theatre Chinook).
