Picture House, Otley (probably early 1950s)

Located in Otley, near Leeds, Yorkshire. The Picture House was opened on 22nd April 1922 with Mary Pickford in “Through the Back Door” & Douglas Fairbanks in “The Mollycoddle”. For many years, the Picture House closed during summer months. The Kinematograph Year Books for 1944 and 1954 show the Picture House, Otley as part of the Leeds based Star Cinemas circuit, but it is not on the list of Star Cinemas in the KYB 1942.

The Picture House closed in 1959. The entrance/foyer was converted to shop use (now the left hand part of Captain Value (2013)). The auditorium, behind the street buildings, was demolished and offices erected.
