Electric Theatre

Located in Ackworth, near Wakefield & Pontefract, West Yorkshire. The Electric Theatre was upstairs on the first floor of the Ackworth Moor Top Working Men’s Club, which was built in 1907 at a cost of £1,750. The Electric Theatre was added onto the building at a later date and was licenced from 1915. The entrance and pay-box was on the right side corner of the building, the the auditorium measuring 86 feet long and 26 feet wide. At the rear of the building were large chimney’s which were part of a sandstone quarry that backed onto the building.

In 1929, it was refused a Cinematograph Licence, due to inadequate provisions for toilets and fire safety issues, and was closed.

By October 2008, it was in use as a Fit 4 Life gymnasium.
