This theater is very special to me because I built it. I did not build the actual building; it was an old Baptist church. A new church was built and moved into a new building in 1991.

The old building sat vacant until I bought it in 1999 and began renovations to turn it into my dream; an old style movie house. The building was built in 1900 and holds the character of an old theater with its original sloping floor and high tin ceilings.

The “new” theater opened for business on May 26th, 2000 and runs 1st-run movies.

Lost: Since I didn’t get to Galeton PA when I was in Coudersport I didn’t get to see the Lakeview Cinema. I tried to see it through your above post, but no luck….help!

I had heard it had been a church prior to finding this link. I hope that Darren Jones who added this theatre posts here again and tells us more.

LOL! I knew you’d come through for me! Not sure if I like the look of this marquee awkwardly placed on this former church. One can certainly tell that it had been a church. Don’t recall “church to cinema”. If at all, it’s the other way around…..“cinema to church”. I wonder how many Galeton residents are happy with this conversion?

I’m sure the interior is unique with the auditorium being the former sanctuary and the stage being where the screen is now. I wonder if the owner put in theatre seats or if patrons sit in pews?
