The University 4 Theatre was opened on June 17, 1977 as a four screen by Consolidated Theatres. The opening attractions were “Star Wars”, “Exorcist II”, “Empire of the Ants” and “Final Chapter, Walking Tall”.

On Friday April 30, 1982 the University Theatre had it grand opening as a six-plex. The opening attractions were “Death Wish III”, “The Con Artist”, “Fast Walking”, “Eyes Of A Stranger”, “On Golden Pond” and “Chariots Of Fire”. It became part of the Carmike Cinemas chain on Friday December 8, 1989 and went to sub-run when Cobb Theatres opened the Hollywood 18 on July 15, 1994. The University 6 closed on May 16, 1996. The theatre building is still standing from a Google street view. Any additional information on the University 6 would be appreciated.

This theater building went through extensive renovation and reconstruction from 2011-12. Although much of the external appearance is the same, none of the internal structure or theater related construction remains. The building has been converted into a substance abuse rehabilitation and treatment center.
