Acme Theatre

Broadway & Dongan Avenue,
Elmhurst, NY 11373

I found the Acme Theatre being advertised in newspapers between 1915 and 1917. By 1918 the theatre was closed and the building was converted for use as a factory. The address included in the theatre advertisement was 119 Broadway near the Long Island Rail Road station.

That is an obsolete address since Broadway now uses a hyphenated address system. One newspaper mentions that the Acme Theatre building was located on Broadway between Dongan Avenue and the Long Island railroad. That is the location that I used for the address above.

Taking a look at the buildings on both sides of the block between Dongan and the tracks, it appears that the theater building went the way of the old LIRR Elmhurst station itself. I don’t think that even the oldest structures there today date prior to the 1930’s or ‘20’s.
