Plaza Cinema

Located in the small town of Newent, to the northwest of Gloucester. The Newent Cinema was opened in the 1920’s and was operated by George L. Rogers. By 1927 it was operated by C.F. Thurston.

By the early-1930’s it had been re-named Plaza Talkie Theatre and was equipped with the little known SOS sound system. Later known as the Plaza Cinema, it was still operating in the summer of 1971.

The building (which today no longer resembles the look of a cinema) is in use as a printers.

This cinema was still going in 1971 as a poster shown on www.spookyisles.com has the film “Countess Dracula” released that year and the date Sunday July 11th, which applies to 1971.
