The Allen Opera House was originally built as a church in 1831. In 1879 the congregation moved to a new church and their former building was remodeled and became the Allen Opera House.

The main entertainment at the opera house consisted of traveling stock companies, vaudeville and in later years, motion pictures. The building was demolished around 1960 to make room for a new interstate highway.

In May, 1927, F. W. Hohman was operating both the Hohman Opera House in Pulaski and the Allen Opera House in Sandy Creek as movie theaters. They were advertised in the May 5 issue of the Sandy Creek News that year (PDF here.)
